CRIMINAL INJURY COMPENSATION
Unfortunately in the world we live in, any person could become the victim of crime. Hopefully this is not and never will be you. However, in the event you are injured as a result of a criminal act you may be able to claim compensation.
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (“CICA”) is an organisation who consider and in some cases award compensation to individuals who have been injured as a result of a violent crime. They also deal with claims made by or on behalf of a limited number of family members where they have lost a loved one as a result of a violent crime.
Our specialised personal injury department, headed by Umran Sadiq, a Partner in the firm and a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (“APIL”), can advise you on any potential claim, represent you and pursue a claim for you through the CICA.
The service we offer extends beyond pursuing a case through the CICA alone, as in cases where an application for compensation is refused or an insufficient award is made, we would advise you on the merits of pursuing a review of the decision and/or appeal, in addition to acting for you and representing you at an appeal hearing in some cases.
In the majority of cases we offer a no win no fee service. Unfortunately, unlike other personal injury claims costs are not recoverable from the opponent when successful. On this basis, the no win no fee service offered is under a contingency fee agreement, which means that if compensation is obtained for you, a limited fixed percentage is only payable in respect of services provided. Otherwise, if compensation is not recovered, no fee would be payable by you for our services.
